While fleas and ticks are a year-round threat, they are most prevalent in the summer months as they thrive in warm weather and high humidity. Protect your pets this summer! Your yard and home could be the ideal habitat for these insects and arachnids that you didn’t even know about. It’s important to take a multi-pronged approach to protecting your pet and your home from these pesky pests as they pose a disease threat to you and your pet!

Here are a few things you can do:

On your pet and in your home

    • Keep your pet clean and tidy.
    • Wash your pet’s bedding regularly.
    • Use flea and tick prevention drugs. For best results, these prophylactic medications should be used year-round. VIP Petcare gives your pet the protection it needs. Stop by today to learn more about pet flea and tick prevention.

    Outside your home

    • Trim your grass.
    • Remove leaves and other debris regularly.
    • Closed crawl spaces and prohibited access to sheds and containers that may serve as habitat for wildlife that may bring fleas and ticks into your property.
    • Trim shrubs and trees with low-hanging branches to reduce shaded areas.
    • Consider user out-of-flea treatments to treat your yard. More attention is paid to dealing with shaded areas, as these are the main habitat for fleas and ticks.

A flea or tick infestation only takes a few weeks to develop in or around your home. Once a pest infestation occurs, it can take several months to remove. That’s why a comprehensive flea and tick prevention program is important to implement year-round and involves treating your pet and your home environment.
